The 2013/14 season witnessed the revival and premiere of Neumeier's ballet "Othello" (1985), based on William Shakespeare's drama, at the Hamburg State Opera.

Musical theater is another dimension of Neumeier's artistic exploration. He directed Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story" (1978) and "On the Town" (1991), showcasing a rhapsodic form evident in ballet revues like "Shall we dance?" (1986) and "Bernstein Dances" (1998).
